32 CE-Eligible for American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine®
AADSM Qualified Dentist Designation and
Dental Sleep Medicine Board Examinations

For-Profit providers' courses on Sleep Apnea, Sleep Disordered Breathing, etc. may dequately cover subject matter, but will not be acceptable by American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine® AADSM Qualified Dentist Designation or Diplomate Boards.

IADMD®, Dr. Dental®'s Dental Sleep Medicine Mini-Residency is one of only a few in the country whose curriculum, criteria and staff has met the AADSM approval and is Credit-Eligible for American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, AADSM'S Qualified Dentist Designation and Dental Sleep Medicine Board.

This Mini-Residency will allow dentists the opportunity to add Dental Sleep Medicine (DSM) and the treatment options of Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) within their dental practices.

Dentists will learn how to properly screen for sleep apnea and gain the knowledge and clinical skills required to assess and treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) seen in a dental practice that may impact the management of a patient with Sleep Disordered Breathing. We will prepare each dentist to evaluate patients, deliver and adjust, in their dental offices, customized OAT for OSA, Sleep Disordered Breathing and snoring. Dentists will be guided in state-of-the-art patient examination techniques, impression and record taking, fitting and adjusting oral appliances that are marketed for OSA, Sleep Disordered Breathing and more. Objectives further include the following:

  • Basic physiology of normal and abnormal sleep of OSA and other sleep disorders.
  • Different types of oral appliances used to treat OSA or snoring, and their modes of action.
  • Impression and Materials used for OAT and how to take the required bite records.
  • Polysomnogram (PSG), Home Study Test (HST) and assess patients before and during OAT; with time permitting, an HST for each student.
  • Examination of the TMJ and masticatory muscles in the evaluation and treatment of patients with OAT.
  • Differences in treatment for adult OSA and pediatric OSA.
  • Long-term follow-up care of patients with OAT.
  • Adjunct therapy for pain management.
  • Practice management, medical coding and billing for OSA, OAT.
  • And much more!

NOTE:  Impression and Bite must be received 6 weeks prior to start date for three (3) FDA approved OAT appliances for each dentist to use during course and to take home.

In addition to headaches and craniofacial pain, another 18 million Americans are estimated to suffer from sleep apnea. With 1 in every 15 Americans suffering from sleep apnea, dentists can differentiate themselves by providing these much needed services to their patients.

Dentists see their patients more often than family doctors due to the recommended visits twice a year. Since we are typically seeing our patients more often, it is important to understand sleep apnea, headaches, TMD and craniofacial pain, as well as gaining an understanding of the right questions to ask for treatment planning.

Let’s change our patients’ perceptions of dentistry by not only helping them better with OSA compliance with an oral appliance rather than a CPAP mask, while creating a new ROI market within your dental practice.
