This is not your average Sleep Apnea or Dental Sleep Medicine course; this is a robust Hands-On Dental Sleep Medicine Mini-Residency. Although other For-Profit courses on Sleep Apnea, Sleep Disordered Breathing, etc. may adequately cover subject matter,  For-Profit CEUs will not be acceptable by American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine® 

IADMD®, Dr. Dental®'s Dental Sleep Medicine Mini-Residency is one of only a few in the country whose curriculum, criteria and staff has met the criteria and is Credit Eligible for American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine® AADSM Qualified Dentist Designation and Dental Sleep Medicine Board Examinations. 


This Mini-Residency will allow dentists the opportunity to add Dental Sleep Medicine (DSM) and the treatment options of Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) within their dental practices. 

Dentists will learn how to properly screen for sleep apnea and gain the knowledge and clinical skills required to assess and treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) seen in a dental practice that may impact the management of a patient with Sleep Disordered Breathing. We will prepare each dentist to evaluate patients, deliver and adjust, in their dental offices, customized OAT for OSA, Sleep Disordered Breathing and snoring. Dentists will be guided in state-of-the-art patient examination techniques, impression and record taking, fitting and adjusting oral appliances that are marketed for OSA, Sleep Disordered Breathing and more. Objectives further include the following:

  • Basic physiology of normal and abnormal sleep of OSA and other sleep disorders.
  • Different types of oral appliances used to treat OSA or snoring, and their modes of action.
  • Impression and Materials used for OAT and how to take the required bite records.
  • Polysomnogram (PSG), Home Study Test (HST) and assess patients before and during OAT.
  • Examination of the TMJ and masticatory muscles in the evaluation and treatment of patients with OAT.
  • Differences in treatment for adult OSA and pediatric OSA.
  • Long-term follow-up care of patients with OAT.
  • Adjunct therapy for pain management.
  • Practice management, medical coding and billing for OSA, OAT.
  • And much more!

Note: Impression and Bite must be received 3 weeks prior to start date for three (3) FDA approved OAT appliances for each dentist to use during course and to take home.

Dr. Dental® is designated as an Approved PACE Program Provider by the Academy of General Dentistry. The formal continuing education programs of this program provider are accepted by the AGD for Fellowship/Mastership and membership maintenance credit. Approval does not imply acceptance by a state or provincial board of dentistry or AGD endorsement. The current term of National approval extends from 9/1/2017 to 8/31/20.

graduated from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 1977. He is entering his 40th year of private practice with the last 27 being in a practice limited to the treatment of TMD and Sleep Apnea. Among the many certifications he has attained are DABCP (Diplomate American Board of Craniofacial Pain), DABCDSM (Diplomate American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine), DABDSM (Diplomate American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, DAAPM (Diplomate American Academy of Pain Management). Currently he divides his time between his private practice and lecturing for the AACP, Dental Schools and other AADSM eligible organizations such as IADMD's Dr. Dental®.

Refunds will be made only if your space is filled. Refund requests (less 10% of TOTAL cost of the program) must be submitted in writing at least 60 days prior to the program start date.
